NYSC: 8 TIPS YOU MUST CONSIDER BEFORE GOING TO CAMP." by Abigail Anebuokhae and Ehis Ehiagbonare

Congratulations to those who have completed their online registration. I wish the others luck and Godspeed.
Alot of mails have been sent to us at corperslodge808@gmail.com, mostly to ascertain the information about registration and what you may or may not need in camp especially from the females. I'm glad we have been able to help alot of people with registration issues.
To tackle the questions about what you may or may not need in camp, we consulted two former corpers, and from the ladies perspective they synthesized the piece you are about to read.
I hope you find it helpful.

Ladies, i know you are excited about your posting for the compulsory national service. Congratulations!!!
However for you to stand out and look smart and classy in camp, there are some do's and dont's  you'll have to follow.

PACKING FOR CAMP

Don't go with your mother's biggest luggage (you are going to camp not your husband's house), pack lightly. You might not need most of the clothes.

MAKE UP

All ye MUA's, in as much as you want to look flawless and va va voom, go easy on the make up, its not a fashion parade. The activities in camp coupled with the sun, may not help your make up achieve what you aimed for. Be moderate.
You need a pair of sun glasses (because sunglasses are dope. And protect your eyes).

NAILS

You don't want nails, and even if u can't live without nails, let them be as short as your natural finger nails. Its advisable not to even fix because it might be a bother during parades, and moreover, some female soldiers don't like such stuff.
However, if u must, make it short and pick a nude polish to go with it. Trust me it will be worth it.

DEODORANT

I'm begging you.. Please, ejor, biko, go with deodorants or body spray, or anything that has a nice smell. After the parades and standing outside for ours, its natural for the body to exude some odour (I didn't say u have body odour o), so to smell pleasant and reduce the harshness of the odor, deodorants and sprays are vital and of course guys love girls with lovely smell, so it will be like using a Stone to kill two birds.

UNDIES

Take as many as possible, (you might not be able to wash them as regular as possible in cases where there is shortage of water).
Please take a good number of bra. No, u cannot go with just one, its unacceptable. Don't even try to ask why. I said no!
Inner wear (singlets) are vital as we don't want a situation where our bra's become the news flash of the day.
Ensure you have sufficient underwear. Camp is like the barracks, you cannot spend the whole day trying to find a place to dry your panties.

 SANITARY PAD

Do not forget to take sanitary towels, tissue and a disinfectant. Your periods could be triggered because of the stress plus you need the disinfectant for your bathing water.
Most of u will have your monthly visitor in camp and it will make u irritated and uneasy. But here's a way to make it less irritating.
Go with two packs of your desired sanitary pad. This is because, you'll have to change the pad thrice daily ( one pad for morning parade, one for afternoon lectures and one for the night).
It might be difficult to discard the sanitary pads after use because the environment may not have waste bins. But its okay.  That's why we are here..
Wrap the used sanitary pad in a nylon bag, locate the nearest pit toilet and let go of your waste in it. (You are welcome).

N:B PRIVACY IS NOT GUARANTEED IN THE CAMP, DO WELL TO KEEP YOUR UNDIES AND WHATNOT SAFE. (tip: make a rope on your bunk and hang your undies there.. You are welcome).

FOOD

As much as they'd provide food, please make sure you go along with easy to eat foods (cornflakes, golden morn, biscuits are perfect).
Get a handy water flask. Parade could be draining. You need to stay hydrated. Dehydration is the major cause of exhaustion and fainting in camp.

FOOT WEARS AND HAIR STYLE

Besides your white canvas, pack a pair of flats and flip flops. You cannot be wearing canvas at night too!
Lastly, I know you love to slay but please, braids would be a perfect hairdo. You'd have no time to dress a weavon.

 MUST HAVES:

◾White shorts and polos/ shirts  (maximum of 5 each)

◾ white socks, army belt, waist pouch ( we don't want u loosing your money).

◾ white canvas ( preferably rubber. Why? Because it's easier to wash)

Miscellaneous

*Its essential to take all your credentials: school ID card, green card ( a green card is the print out u made after Nysc registration), passport, statement of result. Etc.

* Now here's the tricky part. Camp is fun, but don't get too carried away. Don't "carry everything for head" easy does it..  Participate in activities so your time will be enjoyable.

* DO not lose your meal ticket (we know u have money and can afford other food) but for those that can't, don't loose your meal ticket. Its a ticket to your stomach's satisfaction.

P. S.  The best time to bathe is at night after the evening social gathering (why? Because most social gatherings end late and the bugle wakes you up by 4 am. So, bathe by 12 am, wake up 3:30am, do your make up, and 4am when the bugle comes, you'll be flawless).

Have an amazing camp experience!.

NYSC: SAMPLE OF THE NYSC CALL-UP LETTER

NYSC ORIENTATION : THE FIRST DAY IN CAMP

Prospective Corp members are usually baraged with a lot of information, most of them conflicting. These informations range from Online registration, getting the call up letter, preparation for deployment and that picture listing the 'requirements' in camp. While getting this general information are thrown around, its harder to get detailed break down of what really would go down the first day at camp. We'll explore what an Otondo should be expecting and how S/he could make it easier. The first day of camp can roughly be broken down into five parts, arrival, accommodation, registration, kits collection and platoon registrations. Part 1:  Arrival. On arriving camp, you'd be directed to the police post, to have your luggage checked. The check is to ensure Corp members enter camp with the required materials and not prohibited materials. Afterward the Corper will be required to write down their name and will be given a number. This number is very important during re...
