1. NYSC
So in case you find yourself wearing your full NYSC regalia and a Pulse TV presenter asks you, what is the full meaning of NYSC. It is not 'Now your suffering continues'.
NYSC stands for National Youth Service Corps. It's a the scheme that brings together graduates from Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges around the country every year to serve their father land, usually in states other than their states of origin.
2. ORIENTATION CAMP
Service year usually kicks of with the orientation camp. It is the first stage of service, comprising of all the prospective corpers posted to a state spending three Weeks at a designated orientation camp in the State. It is a three week of great physical training, rehabilitation and preparation for the task ahead. Some may say it's pointless, but most always find it to be one of the best part of the service year. It's best to make the most of the experience!
Here is a list of the various orientation camp around the country.
3. PPA
The PPA is short for Place of Primary Assignment. After camp, this is the precise place where a corper will basically serve. It's where you spend the year doing whatever it is you are expected to do, depending on where it is. It could be a village or city, it could be a bank, insurance company or a school. They say it depends on luck and your discipline.
P. S. Most Corp members are posted to schools. Hence, you close for the day by 2:00pm, and have the weekends to yourself. The question becomes, what do you with so much time on your hands.
4. CDS
This is short for Community Development Service.
As a corper, once camp is over, you'll have to join one of the CDS groups in your local government. The CDS group is an opportunity for Corp members to perform a service to improve their locality.
CDS groups meet once a week.
A corper can also embark on his/her own personal CDS which qualifies them for an award at the end of the service year.
5. LGI
This is the Local Government Inspector.
This person is your boss in your local government during your service year. He is the one you can talk to if you may need to change your PPA, best be in his/her good books.

The letter of deployment is the letter issued to corpers on the last day of camp. It contains informations such as your PPA and the local government you have been posted to. Do not leave camp without this.
8. ALLOWANCE (Allowee)
This is your monthly payment. It is one of the highlights of the service.
It's Still #19,800 for now. You will receive your first allowee on the last day of camp. It can be paid to your account or given to you in cash.
9. PV
This is Payment Voucher. It's a form you will be required to fill and sign every month to qualify you for your Monthly "Allowee". You will be doing clearance every first week of the month depending on your local government. You will also sign your first PV on camp.
Without it; no payment; without payment; corper go suffer.
10. SAED
This is the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development. It is a scheme that starts right from camp to help corp members acquire any chosen skill before they finish their service year. The scheme will run for like a week in camp, but you can decide to continue the program after camp (post-camp training).
Its reputed as the most boring period on camp. But I can assure you, if you develop an interest, you will never regret it.
Bonus
11. Otondo
This is a term used by camp officials to refer to you. Yes, corpers are called Otondo!
